When we talk of Holiday nostalgia, many things come to mind. The warm glow of a candle, the soft glisten of fresh snow, light bouncing off ornaments hanging on the tree … All of these just bring a calmness to this time of year.
One of my favourite traditions, and one of the sweetest is the construction (and mess..) of a gingerbread House. For me, I’ve always LOVED architecture and design. The different building styles and landscaping always fascinated me. So when it came to building my own miniature house that I could decorate, I was always so excited.
There is something so charming about the process itself, stacking pieces of gingerbread and “glueing” them together with icing. Choosing your favourite candies to adorn the roof line, windows and yard. And then of course came the most exciting part … DEMOLITION! Smashing it apart after the Holidays and devouring all the pieces. So simple, fun and so satisfying!
Perhaps this tradition shouldn’t end when we grow, rather grow with us and develop getting more intricate as we do!
